No Trouble is a series of drawings executed by Denise Driscoll while waiting: for doctors, nurses, treatment, diagnoses, recommendations, and healing. From her first treatment, the artist has packed her bag for a day of chemotherapy with painted papers and a bag full of pens. Waiting time became an opportunity to draw. The drawings emerged with no restrictions, but grew from layered marks, meandering thoughts, and the joy of working in color and pattern. They often crossed multiple chemo cycles and were worked on in the studio as well. Each drawing transformed time that might feel frustrating, tedious, and gray into something visible, hopeful, and bright. Driscoll claims that she has always been No Trouble when drawing and painting occupy her hands, and that while working—she too—is untroubled.
No Trouble is located in the Lofts Lobby Gallery at 160 Western Ave, Lowell, MA. It will be open to the public from 12-5 pm during March 2 Open Studios at Western Avenue Studios & Lofts. To see No Trouble at another time, contact the artist to make an appointment.
